ďItís been a long time comingÖIt was worth my wait.Ē

Ten years ago, Young Buck could never imagine his current fate. At 14, he moved out of his motherís home to pursue a future in drugs. Although he dabbled in rap, it remained a hobby until he was face-to-face with Cash Money Records co-owner
Bryan ďBabyĒ Williams. Baby instantly took a liking to Buck and invited him to join the crew.

Unfortunately, after 3 years of travel, Buck was never offered a deal. He made the decision to return home and pick up where he left off. However, the return didn't last long.

In April 2000, Buck was shot twice by an unknown gunman. Re-arranging his priorities, he united with Baby again in 2001 but ended up sitting in company offices for 4 days. Disappointed, Buck was set to return home when Juvenile invited him to join UTP. While on the road, he met 50 Cent who was so impressed with Buck he vowed the two would work together if his plans panned out.

Two months later, 50 signed a million-dollar deal. By late 2002, 50 made good on his promise and Buck joined 50 on the road. Fast forward to August 2004.

Chronicmagazine.com: Everyone is waiting for your album. How does that feel?

Young Buck: It feels good. Itís been a long time coming. I feel like itís been worth the wait. It was worth my wait. Iím more comfortable with my situation. Youíre going to get a full Young Buck album.

Chronicmagazine.com: So, this one is going to be different from what weíve already heard from G-Unit, correct?

Young Buck: Yeah totally. Youíre going to hear a totally different album. Itís a reflection of my life. Things Iíve been through.

Chronicmagazine.com: Talk about the album.

Young Buck: Youíll hear more southern features on this record than you will on any other G-Unit record. I worked with Lil Flip, David Banner, T.I., Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, the whole DTP family, G-Unit. Youíre going to get a star-studded album. Basically, youíre going to get a lot of reality. My record is the street and everything else. I base my music behind reality. Thatís the only way people become true fans of your music Ė [pulling] something from one of these verses and identifying with it. It makes them say, ĎIím going through that or I know someone else going through that.í

Chronicmagazine.com: Itís not all personal experiences though.

Young Buck: Itís my personal life mixed with some things that Iíve seen. The whole nine.

Chronicmagazine.com: When you were working on the G-Unit project did you ever feel like your Southern style was being hindered?

Young Buck: Yeah, but I feel like represented it well being the only Southern member of the group. Thereís only so much you can do as one artist. I tried to represent as much as possible on the G-Unit album. It was the set-up for my solo album.

Chronicmagazine.com: Did you experience a culture shock up north? You went from
Nashville to New York.

Young Buck: It wasnít that weird because 50, Banks and Yayo are really from the streets. Theyíre really from the hood like me. I could identify with robbery, murders Ė things of that nature were really happening. Through our music, we could identify with each other without even trying. It was natural.

Chronicmagazine.com: The robberies and murders were your connection?

Young Buck: (laughs) Yeah. All that good stuff. Iím from the hood.
