12.4.09 ------ “That Rihanna reign just won’t let up…”
For those who think the Chrihanna saga killed the career of Rihanna, there are some people who haven’t given up on this diva.
MySpace Music and JetBlue extended a hand to songstress last night via the Urban Concert Series “THE RELEASE.” The Hammerstein Ballroom housed about 800 energetic fans, all which received a free ticket, not to mention the streaming video that went LIVE around the world, to see ROC Nation’s Rihanna.
In a 30-minute set, Rihanna set out to promote her latest album Rated R, but it ended up being more of a best of tribute to fans. Clad in powerful, but sexy silver mini-dress, Rihanna kicked things off with the “The Wait is Over” - fitting for fans who lined up outside to see the Barbados beauty.
She then took a seat at mid-center stage to belt her lead single ‘”Russian Roulette” penned by friend Ne-Yo. The stage went red with pain as the chair spun….Dramatics… Luckily, the next song (one of my favorites) “Please Don’t Stop the Music” sped things up and got the crowd moving on their feet. Rihanna kept fans on their toes by slowing things down again with “Take a Bow.” The ballard found Rihanna sitting on a stool belting lyrics that are far more appropriate in her current set than ever before.
To close things out, Rihanna delivered two crowd favorites – “Umbrella” and “Hard” from her latest album currently making its way up Billboard charts.
Rihanna performs again in New York, on "Saturday Night Live."
