6.16.10 --- Network Journal (, the New York tri-state premier magazine for black professionals, corporate executives, and small business owners announces that Maya Azucena, humanitarian artist and entrepreneur, is to be honored at the 13th Annual "40 Under Forty" Achievement Awards Dinner, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at the Times Square Crowne Plaza Hotel.


The event, "Reaching for Higher Goals," will be hosted by acclaimed actor Malik Yoba.


Most noted for its recognition of accomplished professionals from corporate America, the "40 Under Forty" honor being bestowed upon Maya by TNJ is a rare feat for any musician.


"I am absolutely honored to share this recognition with such inspiring leaders in their own fields," said Maya. "I look forward to more opportunities to personify humanitarian outreach through music, and hope this "40 Under Forty" Award affords more reasons for it."


A true 21st century success story, Maya attended the LaGuardia School of Performing Arts (the "Fame" school).  After forming her own band, she honed her skills traveling over the U.S.  In 2003, she released her debut CD "Maya Who?!" independently and quickly became an underground success. 


Maya is also pleased to announce her new management, Blue Note Management. This world-renowned global brand has been responsible for the recent success of the music career of Cassandra Wilson. With this new partnership, Maya looks forward to amplifying her message of healing to new audiences and to those who will enjoy revisiting her music.


Maya is in the final stages of completing her newest CD, "Cry Love." Featuring collaborators such as Vernon Reid (founder of Living Colour), Maurice Brown (horns for Aretha Franklin and John Legend), and her core-touring band, "Cry Love" is an energetic, lyrical mix of of raw soul music.
