Rapper Beanie Sigel was wounded by gunfire during an attempted robbery early Thursday (May 25).
According to a Philadelphia police spokesperson, Sigel was in his vehicle at the intersection of 22nd and Sigel Streets around 7:10 a.m. that morning when five black males approached him in two vehicles, one of which was detailed as a dark Dodge Mirada with tinted windows.
One of the men — described as a bearded black male in his 30s wearing jeans and Timberland boots — opened fire, and one or two bullets struck Sigel in his upper-right arm. Sigel was able to flee the scene and drove himself to the University of Pennsylvania hospital.
Sigel was shot one or two times in the upper right arm shortly after 8 a.m., police said. He was hospitalized in good condition.
Sigel, born Dwight Grant, was released from federal prison in August after serving a year on a gun charge and was acquitted of attempted murder the following month. He was also briefly jailed in November for failure to pay child support.
