Rapper DMX faces vehicular charges after being stopped on the Saw Mill River Parkway yesterday (October 9), police said.
The Yonkers native, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was stopped after his 2001 Chevrolet Suburban was found to be uninspected, Lt. Henry Cetina of the Westchester County police said.
A computer check found that his registration was suspended because of parking violations and that he was unlicensed, Cetina said.
"He was fully cooperative," Cetina added.
Simmons received three summonses and is due in City Court on Dec. 18. His vehicle was impounded, Cetina said.
The suspended registration charge is a misdemeanor; the unlicensed-operation and uninspected-vehicle charges are infractions.
The charges are the latest in a series of traffic charges against the 35-year-old rapper. X spent a night in the county jail on June 30 after he was unable to come up with $25,000 bail following his failure to appear for two earlier court dates.
Simmons was arrested June 2 on Martine Avenue in White Plains when police, who said he was speeding, discovered that his driver's license had been suspended. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and issued tickets. He was charged with speeding and seat-belt and unsafe-lane-change violations.
He turned down a plea bargain in the White Plains traffic case.
"I don't feel good about this at all," he said at the time. "It's not fair — $25,000 for traffic tickets? Come on. Let's keep it real."
