WORTH THA WEIGHT

As the daughter of legendary blues guitarist, Buddy Guy, it’s not surprising to see Shawnna in the music industry. While the two paths have never crossed, Shawnna has more than put in her time in the industry.  When she says "weight," meaning "wait," she's not kidding — even by rap standards. The album comes four years after her breakthrough guest spot on Ludacris' "What's Your Fantasy."

The good: "R.P.M." featuring Twista.  Keeping up with Twista, this mainstream-ready track finds the duo spitting true to the title of the song. Now we all know that she can hang with the big dogs. Other standouts include "Shake Dat Sh*t" featuring Ludacris and "Superfreak” which should be proof that you don’t have to resort to selling sex by the load to get recognized. The title track, "Worth the Weight" is a nice banger that strikes the listener with intense violins. Finally, “My Chicago" (Pt. 1) shows the harder side of Shawnna.  Not only does it showcase the thug in her, but it's a nice way to open the album.

The bad: Despite her lyrical skills, throughout the album, you get the distinct feeling that she's trying to prove too much. On the Blaze produced "Let's Go," this becomes clear as she takes a predictable jab at vet Foxy Brown. A bit early in the game, but a sure fire way to garner attention. Continuing the downward spiral, “Posted” featuring N.O.R.E. finds Shawnna sinking to the lyrical lows of her counterpart.
