OMARION: 21

by Shelia M. Goss

When B2K disbanded in 2004, most people wrote them off.  But Omarion ignored remarks testing his loyalty and emerged with his debut simply titled O that shot to the top of the charts.  Now a man, Omarion returns with his sophomore effort, 21.

In a recent interview, Omarion talks about his latest projects, including music, movies and fashion. He's set to star in the horror film Somebody Help Me with Marques Houston, and he appears in the Jennifer Lopez-produced movie Reggaeton. He also clears up the drama surrounding his fallout with fellow teen idol turned grown-up superstar Bow Wow.

How's the movie you're working on coming along?
Everything is wrapped up and ready to go. I got two films coming out (Somebody Help Me & Reggaeton).

Congrats. 2007 is a busy year for you already.
2007 is going to be a beautiful year.

Your previous album did well. Did you feel any pressure with 21?
Yes, of course a little, but the man upstairs brought me through. I consider 21 my most personal album and my best work. It's been getting great feedback. You always want to know it was a good album, even if nobody goes out and get it.

Who all did you work with on 21?
I worked with Bryan Michael Cox, The Underdogs, Eric Hudson, Pharrell and Timberland. This is by far my most personal album. Out of twelve of the songs, I wrote eight. I'm getting my pen game up with writing a little bit.

Do you feel like you’re competing with other male artists, such as the Chris Browns, & Ne-yo’s?
No. Competing on the charts. Everyone competes on the charts because there is only one number one record. I feel like as an artist, I have my own style… I have my style of dancing and the way I perform that sets me apart.

Do you have time for a relationship?
No, I don't have time for a relationship unfortunately.  I'm really just laying my foundation right now.

I was watching Dr. Phil recently and there was a person on the show who was a groupie to the point of being a stalker. Do you ever come across any fans who cross the line?
Sometimes I meet some really outrageous people, but for the most part, they are all cool. I try to have a cool relationship with my fans.

Previously, there was a little confusion over the Scream tour. What really happened? Was it a business decision or did the media put more hype into it?

Omarion: Definitely a business move, right along with the media too. Me & Bow Wow are really good friends…

How was your experience on Jennifer Lopez's new dance show?
It was cool. Didn't have to do much but just be real.

Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans before you go?
I love you guys. Thank you for all of your support. Keep God first and that's what's up.
